Ami Niv developed Krav Maga Ami Niv in the mid 1990′s; its roots derive from Krav Maga martial art with many additions from Aikido and Jiu- jitsu. Krav Maga Ami Niv is a dynamic martial art, constantly evolving and trying to find better solutions to deal with the many forms of violence encountered today in most societies.

Krav Maga Ami Niv is first and foremost an educational system with the primary objective of teaching its practitioners respect for self, parents, teachers and any human being, together with humbleness and tolerance. These values are emphasized in training (especially in the children’s classes) and are expected to be carried over into ones everyday life, in order to stimulate personal growth and a better community to live in. Furthermore, we believe that when the student internalizes these values, they in return will give the practitioner a deeper understanding of the Aiki Krav Maga Ami Niv system and of martial arts in general.

From an ideological point of view Krav Maga Ami Niv differs from other martial arts because it attempts to combine an educational direction typical to soft martial arts, such as harmony, tolerance and calmness with the ability to face ‘street violence’ (confrontations with no rules), which require simple, efficient techniques and aggressiveness. This combination requires the instructor to prepare the practitioner mentally, physically and technically for any ‘street’ confrontation against one or more attackers (armed or unarmed).

The defensive and offensive techniques taught Krav Maga Ami Niv are comprised of linear and circular movements that are easy and natural for the body to perform. The system combines punches, elbows, kicks, knees, throws, chokes, arm or leg locks and other useful techniques needed in a street confrontation. In more advanced studies the objective is that every technique will end with the assaulter neutralized on the ground and the defender ready to ‘take on’ any other assailants. In addition, the students are taught how to use and defend against knives, bats or clubs. In later stages the practitioner will also learn how to defend against guns or real life threats.

The training in Krav Maga Ami Niv focus on four components: technical skill, physical capabilities, mental capabilities and simulations of different scenarios (which require a combination of the first three components). From a technical perspective the objective is teaching the practitioner efficient and effective techniques to deal with various violent encounters and that these techniques are performed instinctively so that reaction time when attacked is decreased. Improving mental capabilities in training will help the practitioner improve his function under extreme stress situation, keep ‘cool’ and think rationally when he needs to defend himself in violent encounters. Improving physical capabilities such as cardiovascular fitness, strength, speed, agility and flexibility will give the practitioner tools to effectively execute the techniques that he has practiced. Finally, practicing in simulations of different scenarios, with the practitioner under stress, will combine technical skill, physical and mental capability. In these scenarios we try to bring the practitioner as close as possible to a real event in which he needs to protect himself or others. The student’s objective is to effectively diffuse the situation as fast as possible with minimum injury to himself or other bystanders.

During training the student will be exposed to four major subjects (depending on the practitioner’s level in the system). The basic subject is self-defense, which teaches the student to defend against a single attack, and finish the confrontation by neutralizing the attacker. The second subject is street fighting, which trains the student a sequence of defenses and counter attacks that develop into a fight. The third subject is martial arts, which teaches basic techniques from various styles of martial arts and attempts to give the student a better understanding of Krav Maga Ami Niv’s uniqueness and a broader perspective within the martial arts. The last subject is anti-terror hand-to-hand combat, which is taught to advanced practitioners or specific security, police or law enforcement forces. These units require dealing with complex situations involving one or more terrorists (or criminals) with firearms or when holding hostages. In these instances, usually more than one person will be needed to diffuse the situation, therefore, beside the individual skill level, strategy and coordination among a team is practiced.

Krav Maga Ami Niv has received international recognition in November 1999 by the “world union martial arts federation” and since then Ami (the founder of Krav Maga Ami Niv) is giving exposure to the system in various martial arts seminars in Europe. In addition he teaches courses around the world to specialized forces in anti-terror and criminal enforcement.

The main principles of Ami, in developing Krav Maga Ami Niv (hand to hand combat).

“During the nineties, after seeing many ways in the martial art world, and in light of the luck of inner peace of Israelis as a result of increasing violence, I started to develop the “Krav Maga Ami Niv” method. A method that‘s trying to fix the violence situation in the community, and bring to more peaceful life.

Values – peaceful – self defense – fighting skills – the art of fighting

(1) “the way of the student, during his training will start in learning good manners, and education to respect the other, so he can understand the meaning of ‘love your friend as yourself’”

(2) “My students will see the martial art as a way of life, and a spiritual way to achieve peace inner peace, and as the ability to cope with the raising violence in our society.”

(3) “A student that stand in these criteria, and is consistent in his training will become at a certain point, a ‘self defense weapon’ in the first place, and an attacking weapon, but will not use the way he learned for bad intentions, only for good ones.”

(4) “Try not to be drown to physical violence when you attacked verbally, and when you are physically attacked, do your best not to get hurt, and not hurt people around you.”

(5) “Attack and in the same time try to avoid other’s attacks. “

(6) “My ambition is that every exercise will be easy and simple to do, so the motorial sequence will be similar to the natural movements of the body.”

(7) “The right sequence to perform a perfect exercise is not only to do attack and defense, but to get to a point where your enemy is neutralized on the ground and has no other choice.”

(8) “In order to illustrate the physical and mental stress, caused by a violent attack in the street, the exercises will be performed in different simulations that cause stress, in order to reach to instinctive response, and not thought process. “

(9) “One of the topics I teach my advanced students, are fighting terror skills, including dealing with situation of weapon threatens (like: pistol, rifle, grenade, gaining control over hostage kidnappers or dealing with few attackers with cold weapon)”

(10) “When an Krav Maga Ami Niv student stands in all my criteria, and reaches a high level, he acquires knowledge in varied martial arts that lead him to a deeper understanding the art of warrior, going in a warrior way, than he can become an instructor in the next area.

Ami Niv the founder of aiki krav maga and self defense krav maga

Ami Niv has immigrated to Israel with his family from Caucus (at the time- part of the U.S.S R) when Ami was eight years old. These immigrants and especially their children faced many difficulties settling in the country. As a young child, Ami had to face stereotypes, racism, verbal and physical abuse. The struggle of growing up under these conditions has helped him become a mentally strong individual and has taught Ami what are the ‘rules of the street’ when encountering verbal or physical violence.

A short time after arriving to Israel, Ami started training in Judo and Jiu-Jitsu and when he turned 16 has discovered Krav-Maga and in the last ten years of Imi Lichtenfeld, the founder of the Krav- Maga martial art Ami Niv was one of the closest students.

Ami joined the IDF (Israeli defense forces) when he was 18 and served 3 years as a fitness and self-defense instructor. In his service he designed and implemented self-defense courses for female soldiers as well as hand to hand combat instruction for some of the IDF’s Special Forces units, each unit to its special requirements. Through the years and to this day, Ami was involved in various projects (military and civil) designed to give solutions to security issues. These programs, in which Ami instructs the hand to hand combat component included anti-terror defense of public transportation such as planes, trains and buses, defense of schools, public and government institutions which are vulnerable to terror or criminal activity. Ami is well respected and considered one of the top experts in this field.

Following his military service and addition to his involvement in security projects, Ami has opened his first Krav-Maga school focusing mainly on the instruction of children. Through years of consistency and determination Ami has become known for his ‘educational way’, which could be shortly described as strict, aggressive and demanding during training and a fatherly figure off the mat, always willing to help his students in all aspects of life. In addition, Ami has kept his own development and training in Krav-Maga becoming a well known figure in the Krav- Maga martial art scene.

During this time Ami has become closer to Imi Lichtenfeld and would spend hours with him in philosophical and professional discussions concerning the basic principles of ‘street’ self-defense and he even got Emi Lichtenfeld blessing to establish a new martial art method – “Krav Maga Ami Niv”.

Through years of training Ami began feeling there is a missing component in the Krav Maga martial art, a component emphasizing more inner peace and harmony to counter the aggressive and harshness character of Krav Maga. The answer to Ami’s quest was discovered after participating in various martial art seminars in Europe, in the form of the Aikido martial art (a ‘soft’ martial art that flows with the force of an opponent’s attack and uses this force against the aggressor) and begun training under Edmond Karen (7th degree red white belt in Takemusu Iwama Ryu Aikido). Following two years of intense training in seminars and private lessons from Edmond himself, Ami had earned his black belt in Aikido.

Following Ami’s exposure to Aikido and ongoing seminars in Aikijitsu and Jiu-jitsu, he has started to form a new personal approach to martial arts. From a technical point of view this approach combines elements from the Krav Maga, Aikido and Jiu-jitsu. From an educational perspective he strived to pass down to his students the combination of the determination and aggressiveness typical to Krav Maga with the peacefulness and harmony of Aikido. At a relatively young age, Ami’s ideas have led him to branch out of the Krav Maga and form a new system called Aiki Krav Maga.

1987 Ami Niv authorized to as a instructor and coach in martial art.

1988 Ami Niv travelled to the U.S.A as colonel David Kyle’s gust witch was commander of officers instructors base.

Since 1988 Ami Niv was a gust of many countries leading seminars concerning security and law enforcement.

1993 prime minister Yitzhak Rabbin gave an order to a establish schools training security forces of education institutes due to rising knifing activities happened in the state. Ami Niv was one of whom established those schools.

1997 Ami Niv decided to establish krav maga Ami Niv in the state and the whole world and graduated his master degree at sociology and sports management in Lester England.

Since 1997 Ami Niv teached elite units concerning security and law enforcement all over western Europe eastern Europe and in U.S.S.R Ami Niv won great dignity to teach and established special police units such as “Amun” of U.S.S.R which gave him the privilege of being citizen of honor from concerning his great donation involving new techniques base on human rights for freedom and respect while performing tasks and keeping reasonable strength a thing that was unfamiliar to communistic regime. Ami Niv did that to promote Aiki Krav Maga method which was his vision all over the world and the state.

Simultaneously Ami Niv is being invited by great martial arts masters to seminars that they are teaching their senior students In order to enrich their knowledge at security and law enforcement .

Today, Ami lives in Israel with his wife and two sons. He holds an Ms.c in sociology and sport administration and a graduate of martial arts coaching program from the Wingate institute in Israel (the Israeli national sport institute). Ami is a 7th degree red white belt in the Krav Maga Ami Niv martial art federation and is internationally recognized as the founder of the Krav Maga Ami Niv system. Currently, he teaches Krav Maga Ami Niv and Aikido to his black belts and Aikido students and looks over the instruction of the Krav Maga Ami Niv branches, as well as participating in national and international seminars honorably representing Krav Maga Ami Niv and the state of Israel.

Krav Maga Ami Niv, Mission Statement At ‘Krav Maga Ami Niv Israeli Martial Arts Federation’ we educate and train students to counter verbal and physical violence and help decrease violence in our community. Krav Maga Ami Niv is a martial art method aiming to train students in self-defense through teaching efficient techniques to counter ‘street violence’ and increasing ones physical and mental abilities.
